People Like Me - Racial Identity and Careers

Our “People Like Me” series is aimed at people from underrepresented and/or marginalised groups to give you an opportunity to hear from people with similar identities talking about their experiences of work and recruitment in different industries and share any tips and advice to students about navigating the job market.

This Racial Identity & Careers panel looks at how racial identity shapes opportunity, risk, and choice. The panel will talk candidly about navigating bias, code-switching and leveraging identity as strength. This is a discussion about authenticity, ambition, and advancing in systems as they actually exist.

Speakers include:

  • Dhruv Krishnaraj | Co-Founder | Student Circus

There will be plenty of time for your questions as well. If you would prefer to ask a question anonymously or if you need any adjustments to access this session, please contact in advance Jennie Tannett.

Careers in Charities, Volunteering and NGOs (HSS Students only)

Becoming a Barrister: Routes, Realities and Career Insights

Interested in becoming a barrister or still deciding if it’s the right path for you? This webinar is designed to help you understand what a career at the Bar really involves.

Eve Salter, a Barrister at Exchange Chambers and Jack Moore, a Barrister at Hundred Court Chambers will share their personal career journeys, including the challenges and successes they have experienced along the way. They will provide an overview of the routes into the profession, available funding, and what to expect from the application and interview process.

Students will also gain practical tips on how to strengthen their applications and stand out in a competitive field. Whether they are confident about pursuing the Bar or simply exploring their options, this session will offer valuable insight into this career path.

Working in Forensics

Employers who are working in a range of forensic related jobs will give presentations about their role and career journey.

This event will be of particular interest to students who are studying BSc Forensic Anthropology, BSc Forensic Science and MSc Forensic Bioscience but students from any degree course are welcome to attend.

The format of this event will include presentations from the speakers from 1pm to approximately 3pm, followed by an employer exhibition and networking event from approximately 3pm-4.30pm.

Presentations: 1-3pm (subject to change):

  • 1pm - Registration for event and welcome from David Jordan and Helen Burrell
